Janet Cohen

Janet Cohen brings an extensive background in meeting and event coordination, public relations, strategic planning, communications, and organizational capacity-building to her work as principal at Community Action Partners, a consulting firm devoted to meeting facilitation, event organization, organizational capacity-building, research, and grant-writing services for non-profits and governmental agencies.

Ms. Cohen is very skilled at grant writing. She  secured and managed numerous grants from multiple private foundations and state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Throughout her career, Ms. Cohen has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to facilitate an array of public and private meetings, workshops, events, and conferences. For example, she:

  • Facilitated multi-stakeholder meetings and produced the conference “Sierra Ozone Summit” for the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District. Facilitated meetings and conferences for the Nevada County Transportation Commission, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the Sierra Fund, KVMR community radio and Briarpatch Cooperative.
  • Led strategic planning efforts for many organizations, including the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the Clavey River Ecosystem Project, Tri-Valley Conservancy and City Slicker Farms.
  • Founded and coordinated the first seven Annual Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festivals, the largest environmental film festival in the United States.
    ·Developed and led numerous training workshops, including: Your First Strategic Plan, Membership Development Planning, Being Businesslike about Board Development, and Communications Planning.
  • Managed and directed the Yuba-Feather Workgroup and the Yuba River Conservancy, both multi-stakeholder California state- funded collaborative groups.

Recent projects with Cliff Chambers of Mobility Planners LLC included convening a Mobility Summit and follow-up stakeholder meeting as part of the Short Transit Plan for Western Nevada County; a Strategic Plan for the Peninsula Congestion Relief Alliance; and currently a Shuttle Business Practices Study for SamTrans (under subcontract to Fehr & Peers).
